If you’ve read much of my writing, you know that a great deal of it has to do with my marriage and family (speaking of my writing, subscribe to a bi-monthly recap of it here).
Recently, a fellow writer encouraged me to include a photo of my wife and me on my website. As she put it: “I don’t want to hear a man talk about marriage unless I know he’s happily married to a real person.”
In fact, I’m very happily married to my wife, Raquel (with whom I have three children). We tied the knot in 2008, and some of the stories from our marriage are featured in the book, Confessions of a Happily Married Man: Finding God in the Messiness of Marriage (you can order it here). Although it’s technically “my” book, her fingerprints are all over it and she actually writes the last chapter, which is my favorite one.
The book is an invitation for readers to walk through a day in the life of their marriage, take a second look at their own stories, and pay attention to the ways God may be at work. Raquel and I set the example by vulnerably sharing moments in our marriage — cringe-worthy, hilarious, and heart-breaking moments that readers can relate to but might never talk about.
As you learn along with Raquel and me in the book, you’ll gradually become more self-aware along with us, increasingly grateful for your marriage, and surprised to discover what God has been doing in the middle of it all.
